Kuba Szreder
Guest Speaker
Szreder is a graduate at the sociology department of Jagiellonian University (Krakow). He works as a curator of interdisciplinary projects, which are expanding artistic activities in the public sphere, actively engaging in social context and contemporary politics. He is experimenting with various artistic practices through which socially relevant knowledge is produced and distributed. He has a wide experience of curating projects in urban context, working with public space and reshaping spatial practices. He is initiator and curator of public art festival “Passengers” in Warsaw (3 editions between 2007 and 2009). He is pursuing his interests also in the field of contemporary art theory and critical cultural studies, cooperating with various art magazines, writing texts to catalogues and anthologies. He works with ha!art publishing (Krakow), which released his book “Industrial Town Futurism” (edited together with Ewa Majewska and Martin Kaltwasser), a summary of years long research and exhibition project. German edition was published by Revolver Verlag in 2007. In 2009 he worked as a curator of nomadic self – educational project Free / Slow University of Warsaw and counter – public art festival about disappearing from public space. The projects were summarized in two publications he’s co-edited, both published by Bec Zmiana Foundation – “Disappearing. Users Manual” and “Readings for artworkers: culture, not profit.” In Fall 2009 he’s started his PhD research in Loughborough University School of Art and Design about the public potential of contemporary curatorial methods and artistic practices.
