Sara Davidmann
TrAIN Associate Project Partner
Sara Davidmann is an AHRC Research Fellow at London College of Communication. She completed a practice-led PhD at London College of Communication in 2007. Her photography explores lived experiences of gender beyond the polarised female/male categories. Much of her photography is collaborative. This collaborative base, the personal dynamic upon which the work builds, and her involvement in London’s queer communities, has led to photography that challenges the notion that the two-sexes/two-genders equation is a ‘natural’ fact of life. In 2003 Dewi Lewis published a monograph of her work, ‘Crossing the Line’. Since then, there has been an increasing international interest in both her photography and her writing on photography. The most recent publication, a chapter in ‘Transgender Identities: Towards a Social Analysis of Gender Diversity’, was published by Routledge 2010. Her photography has been exhibited extensively including Paris Photo, Basel Art Fair, ‘Somatechnics’ Sydney, ‘Transfabulous’ London, MOMA Oxford. She has received numerous awards for her work, most notably a Fulbright Hays scholarship, an Association of Commonwealth Universities Fellowship and three further AHRC awards.
