Dr Amanda Mayer Stinchecum is an independent scholar who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. After a career as a fashion journalist, she received her doctorate in 1980 from Columbia University. She specialises in the history of Ryukyu/Okinawa; her focus is on cultural and economic history viewed through the medium of textile and clothing design, production, technology and use.
