Lesley Millar is Reader in Contemporary Craft Practice at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design, UK and has been has been a practising weaver with her own studio since 1975. Her research interests are: contemporary textile practice UK and Japan, textile craft, textile as intervention in the built environment, textile and narrative, and textile and cultural identity. She has worked as an exhibition organiser and curator specialising in textiles since 1987 and was project director for the international touring textile exhibitions Textural Space (2001), Through the Surface (2004-05) and 21:21 - the textile vision of Reiko Sudo and NUNO (2005-2007).
